南山手は、長崎県長崎市内の重要伝統的建造物群保存地区として選定されている地域の名称。近隣のもう一つの重要伝統的建造物群保存地区の
東山手と合わせて長崎市により景観形成地区として指定されている。1859年（安政6年）に長崎港が開港場となった後、東山手と同じく外国人
居留地となったが、こちらは主に住宅地として用いられた。居留する外国人のために建てられた大浦天主堂は「信徒発見」の舞台ともなった。
